What is different on amazon.ae — and which US-centric advice from the corpus does not transfer. Web-researched, not from the corpus; flagged as such.

Every other chapter is distilled from 100 practitioner videos, almost all by amazon.com sellers. This one is the exception: it is built from web research (Amazon's UAE seller pages, Amazon Ads help, the UAE Federal Tax Authority, regional trade press) accessed 2026-08-19, and exists to stop US mechanics being copied blindly onto a Dubai listing. The headline differences: amazon.ae is a 2019 rebrand of Souq with roughly a seven-year history [W17]; referral fees for a shower head land at 15 % [W1]; VAT is a flat 5 % and is added on top of every Amazon fee [W1] [W16]; and several US staples — Vine, Brand Referral Bonus, the tariff conversation, Prime Day in July — either do not exist here or work differently.

The marketplace: what amazon.ae is

Exhibit 01 · SHIO — above the fold Rendered main image with the cartridge and box visible, video in the gallery rail, deal badge live — the assets most sellers spend a year assembling are already on this listing.

The subject of all of it, live on .ae: SHIO's listing with next-day Prime-speed delivery to Dubai [SS-01].

  • Origin and scale. Amazon bought Souq.com in 2017 and relaunched it as amazon.ae on 1 May 2019, with "over 30 million products", an Arabic-language option for the site and app ("the first time ever at Amazon"), AED pricing, cash on delivery, and "free next day delivery on orders above AED 100" [W17]. amazon.sa and amazon.eg followed in 2020 and 2021 as separate marketplaces.
  • Position. Third-party estimates put UAE e-commerce at about US$8.1 bn in 2025 with Amazon #1 and noon #2 [W27] — directional only. Amazon Ads' Middle East guide names personal care and home appliances among UAE growth categories and reports 71 % of surveyed shoppers "regularly seeking optimal pricing" and 67 % weighing delivery speed when choosing a seller [W9].
  • Language. Amazon's expansion guide describes the UAE store as "an English-language experience" [W8]; the storefront itself toggles to Arabic [W17]. There is no documented auto-translation of seller listings; practitioners recommend English first, professional Arabic as a second phase [W26]. Whether Arabic keywords index in search on .ae is unverified — check with a test search in the Arabic UI.
  • Prime. AED 16/month or AED 140/year (VAT inclusive), 30-day trial [W19] [W22]. Delivery expectations are aggressive: "Rush" 2-hour delivery free over AED 100, Amazon Now "in minutes" free over AED 25 [W19]; same-/next-day is the norm on FBA items, and only FBA earns the Prime badge [W2].
  • Payments. Card and cash on delivery both exist; COD is offered on Easy Ship but not on FBA or Self-Ship [W2].

Registration, entity and VAT

SHIO is a Dubai LLC, which is the easy case. Amazon's UAE checklist for a seller account: business email or Amazon customer account, reachable phone number, Emirates ID, "Trade License if you are owner and a Power of Attorney only if you are a legal representative", a bank/credit-card/utility statement under three months old, and a bank account for payouts [W3]. "If your business is operating in the UAE, you need a valid commercial license" — mainland or free zone; the Dubai DED Trader licence for home-based online sellers costs AED 1,370 [W4]. Foreign companies "may not be required to form a Middle East-based company" [W8] — a local entity is not a moat.

VAT: the UAE rate is 5 %; registration with the Federal Tax Authority is mandatory once taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, voluntary above AED 187,500, and the threshold "is not applicable to foreign businesses" [W16]. Two consequences for a seller:

  1. Consumer prices on amazon.ae are VAT-inclusive; when you set AED 199 the 5 % is inside it.
  2. Amazon's fee schedule states: "All listed fees are displayed excluding applicable VAT. We will additionally apply VAT to all fees displayed above" [W1]. Every referral, fulfilment and storage line below is +5 %.

Whether SHIO already holds a TRN and has it entered in Seller Central is unverified — check Seller Central > Tax Settings.

Fees on .ae — the official rate card

Everything here is from Amazon's UAE pricing page (fees "effective August 1, 2025") [W1]; the page is the source of truth and changes without notice.

Fee line amazon.ae figure [W1]
Professional plan "no monthly subscription fees, for limited time only"
Individual plan exists for < 40 units/month [W3]; per-item fee not published on the pricing page — verify
Referral: Home; Kitchen; Tools & Home Improvement 15 %
Referral: Beauty; Health & Personal Care; Personal Care Appliances 8 % if item price <= AED 50, 15 % above
Minimum referral fee AED 1
FBA fulfilment, standard parcel <= 0.25 kg AED 7.2 (item price <= AED 25) / AED 9.2 (> AED 25)
FBA fulfilment, standard parcel <= 12 kg AED 19.5 / AED 21.5
FBA fulfilment, oversize <= 30 kg AED 39.5 / AED 41.5, then AED 1 per kg
Monthly storage AED 2 per cubic foot
Long-term storage charged on units stored > 365 days; rate not shown — verify
VAT on all of the above + 5 %

For SHIO: a shower head priced above AED 50 pays 15 % referral whether classified under Home Improvement or Beauty/Personal Care — category matters for search, not for the fee [C2]. A boxed head plus filter is a standard parcel in the ~0.5–1 kg band, roughly AED 10–13 fulfilment before VAT (interpolated — verify with the FBA calculator on the same page); a replacement filter alone may fit an envelope tier (AED 5.5–8.5). No inbound placement, low-inventory or returns-processing fee appears on the .ae card [W1] — redo the [C6] fee stack with these lines, not the US ones. New-seller incentives advertised in August 2026: "up to 5% back on your first AED 3,500,000 in eligible branded sales", an "AED 3,700 credit" for Sponsored Products, and 5 % referral for up to 120 days on first-to-list Prime-eligible products [W7] — check whether an existing account qualifies.

Fulfilment: FBA UAE, Easy Ship, Self-Ship, and KSA

Amazon UAE offers three routes [W2]:

FBA Easy Ship Self-Ship
Who stores Amazon Seller Seller
Who delivers Amazon Amazon Logistics picks up from seller Seller / 3PL
Prime badge Yes No No
Featured Offer eligible Higher chance No No
Cash on delivery No Yes No
Returns Amazon Optional Amazon Seller
Fees referral + closing + fulfilment + storage referral + shipping referral only

Amazon's UAE fulfilment network is Dubai-based plus the Abu Dhabi AUH1 centre opened 18 September 2025 in KEZAD ("up to 8 million units", 30+ categories including home and beauty, enabling same-day delivery "throughout the UAE") [W18]. Inbound from abroad needs an Importer of Record (Amazon will not be IOR) and a Carrier Central appointment; UAE customs duty is a flat 5 % [W26] — routine for a Dubai LLC importing its own stock.

Cross-border to Saudi Arabia: amazon.sa is a separate store added to a linked account [W8]; a Remote Fulfilment option exists in principle, but a 2026 forum thread shows enrolment failing with "Seller is not registered in this marketplace" [W28], and holding stock in Saudi FBA triggers KSA VAT (15 %) registration — verify with an adviser. Not a near-term move for a single-SKU brand.

Advertising on .ae

Amazon's UAE seller site lists Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and free Stores; all require a Professional account, and Brands/Display/Stores require Brand Registry; the model is "pay only for the clicks your ads receive" with no stated minimum [W6]. Amazon Ads' regional guide recommends starting with automatic-targeting Sponsored Products and checking indexing before launch [W9] — the same sequencing [C3] describes.

DSP: Amazon DSP has been available in the UAE since 2019 and the UAE is on the current DSP country list (34 countries as of August 2026, Middle East = KSA, UAE, Israel, Egypt, Morocco, Bahrain, Kuwait) [W12] [W13]. Amazon Marketing Cloud in the UAE is reported by third parties only — unverified; Sponsored TV, Prime Video ads and Sponsored Brands video on .ae: unverified.

CPC levels on .ae: no reliable published figures; treat the US ACoS/CPC benchmarks in [C3] as shape, not level.

Programs: what exists on .ae and what does not

Program On amazon.ae? Evidence
Brand Registry Yes — registered or pending trademark from a country with an Amazon store; IP Accelerator available [W5]
A+ Content, Stores, Brand Analytics, Transparency, Project Zero Yes (listed as Brand Registry benefits) [W5]
Vine No — Amazon staff on the .ae forum: "not currently available in the UAE" (threads ~1–2 years old); no announcement since [W14] [W15]
Amazon Attribution Conflicting. Amazon's own product page lists "Middle East: KSA, UAE" [W10]; a May 2026 agency guide says it is not available in the UAE [W11]. Trust the Amazon page but confirm inside the .ae ad console
Brand Referral Bonus No — "available to sellers who are Brand Registered in the US only" [W30]
Subscribe & Save Yes for shoppers — "extra 10% off" across homecare, beauty, supplements [W25]; seller enrolment terms on .ae unverified (US rules: Brand Registry, in-stock > 90 %, 0/5/10 % seller discount [W29])
Coupons, Lightning Deals, Prime Exclusive Discounts Deals visibly run on .ae (Prime Day, White Friday, monthly "Beauty Week" 20th–26th) [W21]; seller-side fees on .ae unverified — do not assume the US $70/day deal fee
Prime Day Yes — 24–30 June 2026, seven days, 30+ categories [W19]
White Friday (not "Black") 20–30 November 2025 on amazon.ae, "biggest sale of the year" [W20] [W21]
Ramadan / Eid / 11.11 / Back to School Yes — regional calendar (Ramadan sale from early Feb 2026, 11.11 in Nov, Back to School Jul–Aug) [W21]

Where sources disagree: Attribution on .ae. Amazon's product page [W10] explicitly names KSA and UAE; the agency guide [W11] (dated 2026-05-15) omits them. The primary source wins, but Amazon regional availability pages are sometimes ahead of the seller UI — verify by opening Amazon Attribution from the .ae advertising console. This matters more for SHIO than for most sellers because the salon/QR channel is off-Amazon traffic that only Attribution can measure.

Rufus / COSMO / AI shopping on .ae

On 13 May 2026 Amazon retired the Rufus name and replaced it with "Alexa for Shopping" in the US app and site; Rufus continues to power the experience behind the scenes, and the rollout was announced for "the U.S. over the coming week" [W23]. Rufus reached "more than 250 million customers" in a year [W24]. Before the rename Rufus had rolled out to the US, UK, India, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Canada [C1]. No Amazon source found announces Rufus or Alexa for Shopping on amazon.ae or amazon.sa as of 2026-08-19 — unverified, and most likely not live. The listing discipline in [C1] and [C7] still holds — COSMO-style semantic ranking is back-end — but the shopper-facing assistant that rewards Q&A-style content probably does not exist yet for a Dubai buyer. Check the amazon.ae app for an "Alexa for Shopping" entry point before investing in assistant-specific content.

What from the corpus does NOT transfer

Explicit list — mark these "(US — verify for .ae)" wherever they appear in [C1][C7]:

  • US tariffs / Section 301 / de minimis changes — irrelevant to a UAE-warehoused product; the UAE cost is 5 % customs duty on import plus 5 % VAT [W16] [W26].
  • Vine as the launch-review engine — not on .ae [W14]; the review-velocity playbook in [C4] must run on organic asks, inserts and Request-a-Review only.
  • Brand Referral Bonus — US-only [W30]; the "10 % back on external traffic" economics do not apply, so the salon/QR channel must justify itself on margin alone.
  • Amazon Attribution — probably available [W10] but confirm; do not build the QR funnel on it until you see it in the console.
  • US fee lines — inbound placement, low-inventory, returns processing, US storage tiers, USD long-term storage; the .ae card is simpler and in AED [W1].
  • US holiday calendar — Prime Day in July, Black Friday/Cyber Monday, Q4 gift peak; the .ae rhythm is Ramadan/Eid, Prime Day in late June, Back to School, 11.11, White Friday, National Day [W19] [W21].
  • Rufus-specific tactics — assistant not confirmed on .ae [W23].
  • CPC/ACoS benchmarks — US numbers; no reliable UAE published data.
  • US Prime price/thresholds and plan fees — UAE Prime is AED 16/month, Rush free over AED 100 [W19]; .ae Professional is currently free [W1].

What this means for SHIO

  1. Reprice on the .ae rate card. 15 % referral + ~AED 10–13 FBA + AED 2/cu ft storage, all + 5 % VAT, minus 5 % VAT already inside the retail price [W1] [W16]. Redo the [C6] margin sheet in AED with these lines.
  2. Confirm Brand Registry via the UAE trademark — pending is enough [W5]; it unlocks A+, Store, Sponsored Brands/Display and (if available) Attribution.
  3. Do not plan a Vine launch. Build the review engine in [C4] around inserts, Request-a-Review and the salon customers you meet in person [W14].
  4. Test Attribution in the .ae console this week. If it is live, tag every salon QR code; if not, use unique coupon codes per salon as the tracking proxy [W10] [W11].
  5. Enable Subscribe & Save on the replacement filter — the shopper-side program exists [W25]; the filter is a natural 60–90-day subscription. Verify seller enrolment terms in Seller Central.
  6. Stay FBA-only — Prime badge, Featured Offer eligibility and same-day expectations make Easy Ship uncompetitive for a small parcel [W2] [W19].
  7. Plan the deal calendar around White Friday (Nov), Prime Day (late June) and Ramadan — not July/November US peaks [W19] [W21]. Beauty Week (20th–26th monthly) is a cheap recurring test slot [W21].
  8. Ship English listing content first, then Arabic — and test whether Arabic terms for "shower filter" / "hard water" surface in the Arabic UI before paying for translation [W8] [W26].
  9. Ignore tariff advice; watch the 5 % duty and IOR paperwork when importing stock [W26].
  10. Do not expand to amazon.sa yet — enrolment friction and KSA VAT [W28].
